Press Box Chili

In the mid-1980s, Rick published “Press Box Chili,” a book of his own favorite columns. It is the perfect anthology for anyone who wants to appreciate Rick’s approach to covering the sports world and its stars and journeymen alike. Even those who typically don’t read the sports pages can find something transcendent in the pages of “Press Box Chili,” which we’ve digitized here. His description of Pittsburgh Pirate baseball great Willie Stargell as a “big oak tree” and his heartbreaking column about the downfall of Steelers quarterback Joe Gilliam are must-reads.
